Electrolysis or Laser? Which is right for me?

We receive a lot of questions about what the difference between Electrolysis & Laser is. And which method works best at permanently removing hair.

The biggest difference starts with the color of the hair you would like removed and the color of your skin. If you have dark hair, blond or gray hair, Electrolysis is your answer. If you have light skin or dark skin, Electrolysis is for you.

Laser, on the other hand, can only work on dark hair and light skin. So, if you have lighter color hair, or tanned or darker skin, you are not a candidate for laser.

You see, laser attacks pigment. Light or gray hair does not have any pigment, therefore the laser will be ineffective. Additionally, if you have darker skin, the laser will hit the pigment of your skin first, which can result in hypo-pigmentation (white spots). These spots are irreversible.

Whereas, Electrolysis uses a very fine probe that slides into the hair follicle to eradicate the hair. A small current is used which kills the hair germ cells that grow the hair. Because Electrolysis is much more precise, it is safe and effective on anyone.

That being said, if we get a client who has a back full of hair or one who has a plethora of leg hair, we will certainly recommend a laser consultation. Again, only if the client has dark hair and fair skin.

The F.D.A. approves Electrolysis as the ONLY form of permanent hair removal. While laser will only offer hair reduction, it cannot permanently remove everything.
